Objectives for the Session

    gaps of Tutors, Mentors and Student Teachers in
    relation to English as an Additional Language
  • An awareness of the potential contribution of the
    TTRB
  • Explored strategies for using resources for
    teaching English as an additional language in
    your ITE setting

EAL in ITE
  • All trainees will encounter pupils learning
    English as an additional language in their career
  • Trainees (and tutors) may have little experience
    in schools or witness poor practice depending on
    regional demographics
  • Guest lecturers teaching a one-off session on
    EAL has very little impact
  • Programmes need to address
  • the distinctiveness of the learners
  • task, research and practice and
  • strategies that permeate all areas
  • of the curriculum.
