  • Students will read and write about literature,
    primarily from the textbook and a class novel (To
    Kill a Mockingbird)
  • Designed to teach and review grammar and writing
    skills to prepare students for high school level
    writing

OGT Prep Reading and Writing
  • Students will prepare for the OGT through
    intensive 2-3 week segments in each of the
    curricular areas
  • Students will work on reading and writing skills
    through OGT preparation workbooks

  • Combination of reading and writing about
    literature

  • Designed to prepare students for success in
    college in both literature and composition
  • Focus is on American Literature various short
    stories, poems and essays
  • Students will read one independent novel and at
    least one class novel (past novels include Huck
    Finn, The Scarlet Letter, The Great Gatsby)

  • Assignments include reading, answering
    comprehension questions, projects, oral
    presentations, quizzes, tests, etc.
  • Research paper consists of 1/3 of one nine weeks

  • Students must have a reasonable grasp of
    mechanics and spelling in writing

  • Emphasis also placed on reading improvement and
    appreciation

    college or for the work force

  • Prerequisites Summer reading and assignments,

  • Selection process based upon submitted writing

  • For students eager to produce and share original
    poetry, drama, short stories, or other writings
    in specific genres
  • Students will create a portfolio of their own
    works, with specific requirements, and revision
    of those pieces of writing will be included
  • Course is designed for students truly interested
    in creative writing who wish to experiment and
    improve their own skills

    required
  • Whenever possible, guest writers will be invited
    to share their works in class
  • Students are expected to have solid skills in the
    mechanics of writing, including spelling,

    of a school newspaper, video newscast, and video
    daily announcements study/analysis of local
    media research and presentation on media topics,
    such as censorship and media history

  • Intended for students interested in developing
    their comfort and skill with public speaking
  • Students will prepare and perform a variety of
    informal and formal speeches and debates
  • Performance skills developed through reading of
    daily announcements and Speech Night, at the end
    of the semester
