- Formed in 1972, AUVSI is the worlds oldest and
largest non-profit organization devoted
exclusively to unmanned systems. - Started post-Vietnam in Dayton, Ohio, as the
National Association for Remotely Piloted
Vehicles - Organization consists of a 23-member Board of
Directors who are elected by the full membership - Board makes strategic decisions of the
organization - Full-time staff of 11 run the operations and
activities of AUVSI - The mission of AUVSI is to promote and support
the unmanned systems community through
communication, education and leadership.

worldwide, representing nearly 1,500
organizations and 50 countries - Diverse members from industry, government,
academia - Database of more than 12,000 highly-qualified

- Now includes 4 separate mission-oriented events

- Approximately 80 schools competed in 2005 events
- Teams must design, build and deploy fully
autonomous vehicles to complete a real-world task - Introduce students to the unmanned systems world
and, hopefully, career opportunities - Nearly 400,000 awarded in prize money to date
