The Dangers of Plastic Surgery Tourism
  • In recent years, a number of Americans have
begun travelling overseas to employ the services
of plastic surgeons to take care of specific
procedures or desired changes. The main reason
these services are being sought so frequently by
those from North Americarevolves around the fact
that the procedures are conducted for dirt cheap
prices, which is an extremely attractive feature
    in todays economy. Unfortunately, the
consequences have proven themselves quite dire in
nature, causing everything from chronic pain or
numbness issues to even the loss of life, noneof
which can wear a price tag. Below we will discuss
this plastic surgery trend and the dangers which
plastic surgery tourism really poses to the
    patient.

Plastic Surgery Tourism The facts
  • Plastic, or cosmetic surgery has acquired
somewhat of a stigma over the years, as people
really do not consider cosmetic procedures to be
true surgery. The fact is, Cosmetic Surgery is
indeed a surgical procedure and should be treated
with all the thoroughness and care as such. This
should include utilizing the services of only the
most qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeons,
and when these procedures are sought in countries
where the standards are low to non-existent, you
run serious risk of personal injury or death.
  • In most countries abroad where these services are
sought, the individuals who provide the services
are usually not licensed physicians in fact,
many learned the basics of the trade out of
library borrowed textbooks or over the Internet.
Since there are no governmental regulations over
cosmetic procedures in many of these countries,
they are practicing something they have no
credentials to practice with no threat of
consequence to anyone but the patient. These are
    the facts.

The Frightening Statistics
  • There are a number of damaging or deadly
procedures performed overseas and in Mexico every
year, with work done in Thailand and the
Dominican Republic showing the most problems of
all. The following statistics are for the year
    2014 read on

    serious bacterial infections, resulting in
    hospitalization, further surgical procedures, and
    severe scarring since March, 2014.
  • Passage of time prior to infection
    onset...In all reported cases the
symptoms were manifest at any time within the
first year after the procedure, meaning there is
the potential for issues far into the future,
