• Mount Rushmore National Memorial, near Keystone,
  South Dakota, is a monumental granite sculpture
  located within the United States Presidential
  Memorial that represents the first 150 years of
  the history of the United States of America with
  60-foot (18 m) sculptures of the heads of former
  U.S. Presidents George Washington, Thomas
  Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham
  Lincoln.1 The entire memorial covers
  1,278 acres (5.17 km²),2 and is 5,725 feet
  (1,745 m) above sea level.3 It is managed by
  the National Park Service, a bureau of the United
  States Department of the Interior. The memorial
  attracts approximately 2 million people annually

George Washington

• George Washington (February 22, 1732 December
  14, 1799)1 led America's Continental Army to
  victory over Britain in the American
  Revolutionary War (17751783), and in 1789 was
  elected the first President of the United States
  of America.2 He served two four-year terms from
  1789 to 1797, winning re-election in 1792.
  Because of his central and critical role in the
  founding of the United States, Washington is
  referred to as father of the nation. His devotion
  to republicanism and civic virtue made him an
  exemplary figure among early American politicians.

Thomas Jefferson

• Thomas Jefferson (13 April 1743 N.S.4 July 1826)
  was the third President of the United States
  (18011809), the principal author of the
  Declaration of Independence (1776), and one of
  the most influential Founding Fathers for his
  promotion of the ideals of Republicanism in the
  United States. Major events during his presidency
  include the Louisiana Purchase (1803) and the
  Lewis and Clark Expedition (18041806).

Teddy Roosevelt

• Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., (October 27, 1858
  January 6, 1919), also known as T.R. and to the
  public (but never to friends and intimates) as
  Teddy, was the 26th President of the United
  States, and a leader of the Republican Party and
  of the Progressive Movement, as well as being the
  youngest President in the United State's history.
  He served in many roles including Governor of New
  York, historian, naturalist, explorer, author,
  and soldier. Roosevelt is most famous for his
  personality his energy, his vast range of
  interests and achievements, his model of
  masculinity, and his "cowboy" persona. His last
  name, often mispronounced, per Roosevelt, is
  correctly pronounced "Rosavelt."23

Abraham Lincoln

• Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 April 15,
  1865) was President of the United States from
  March 4, 1861 to April 15, 1865. As an outspoken
  opponent of the expansion of slavery and a
  political leader in the western states, he won
  the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was
  elected president later that year.
