- Hi ! I am Ellie Schneider
- and this is my presentation on the 1956 Melbourne
Olympic Games.
- I hope you enjoy!!
- I found my information through the Internet,
Olympic books and in the Grolier Multimedia
Encyclopedia.
2Location / Map
- In 1949 Melbourne was selected to host the 1956
Olympic Games. Melbourne is the capital city of
Victoria and when Melbourne was selected to host
the games everyone was stunned. They got elected
by only one-vote margin. - Melbourne lies in the Southern Hemisphere which
was only one of the problems of having it in
Melbourne. The athletes from other countries had
to gather themselves from one region to another.
In previous Olympics this has never been a
problem because it has always been held in the
Northern Hemisphere. - Melbourne is also the second largest city
in Australia. Well in the end it was all fine and
Melbourne held a great 1956 Olympics.

3Flag
- This is the Victorian flag.
- It consists of the Union Jack, five stars
representing the southern cross and the St
Edwards Crown.
- The five stars do not have the same amount of
points. The five stars have names.
- The Alpha Crucis is the biggest of them all, it
has eight points.
- The Beta Crucis and the Gamma Crucis have seven
points.
- The Delta Crucis is the second smallest and has
six points and the Epsilon Crucis is the smallest
of them all and has five points.
- Well that is the Victorian flag.

4Population
In Victoria there is an overall population of
around 4.7 million and in Melbourne there is 3/4
of this population, 3.4 million.
5National Dress
Like in most countries people dress in just the
normal tee-shirt and pants or skirt but there is
a national dress for each country. It might not
be the clothes you wear now a days. For instance
people around the world might think oh the
Australians run around in cow boy hats and
thongs when we all know that not even nearly all
of us do.(can you imagine).
