What is the Graduation Project?
  • It is a school-wide responsibility patterned
    after the Senior Project designed by UNC-G (1997)
  • It is an integral component of the North Carolina
    high school exit standards
  • It is a performance based exit assessment
  • It fosters skills to be mastered prior to the
    senior year
  • It utilizes skills present in the North Carolina
    Standard Course of Study and the Six Key Elements
    for twenty-first century learning
  • Implementation for the graduating class of 2010

What are the Key Components of the Graduation
Project?
  • Commonly referred to as The Four Ps
  • The Paper- a research-based paper written on an
    approved topic of student choice
  • The Presentation-To a panel of community and
    faculty members
  • The Portfolio- Reflects the Graduation Project
    process
  • The Product-Requiring 15 hours of work
  • Product can take one of three approaches
  • Career-oriented approach
  • Hobby/Self-fulfilled Approach
  • Altruistic/Humanitarian Approach

Key Components of the Graduation Project

  • Rubrics provided by North Carolina Department of
    Public Instruction
  • Graduation Project components (The Four Ps)
    will be scored locally using the state adopted
    rubrics
  • Students who fail any component of the
    Graduation Project must master the failed
    component prior to graduation. Students will
    receive interventions/remediation on the failed
    component prior to resubmitting to a committee.
