BOMs Go Beyond HLA

• Explanation BOMs have interest outside of
  typical HLA domain.
• Impact HLA standards provide some limitation
  in being able to support BOMs.
• Meta-data issues
• Behavorial Representation
• Recommendation
• 1516.2 Notes field/tables might be useful to
  capture/reflect Meta-Data.
• 1516.2 can potentially support IF BOMs.
• Requires further study (ie. Call For Papers)

Need to be Cautious with Reuse

• Explanation
• Reuse is sold as a way to do things better,
  cheaper, and faster. But not always true,
  unless a well-defined spec (understanding) is in
  place. (00F-SIW-019)
• Recommendation
• Need to identify specification standard for
  capturing requirements that will allow BOMs to be
  built and reused easily.
• Requires further study (ie. Call For Papers)

Need Standard Representation for BOMs

• Explanation
• Reuse can only work if well-defined standard
  representation is in place.
• Recommendation
• OMT (1516.2) provides a starting point to
  represent IF BOMs.
• Consider OMG, NDAG and other Standard
  Organizations in their efforts. (00F-SIW-013)
• Behavioral Representation for ECAP BOMs can
  potentially be supported within XML.

Pilot Project Needed

• Explanation
• Real world examples need to be prototyped and
  demonstrated
• to gain more in depth knowledge and
  applicability, and
• to provide incentive for others to Build, Share,
  and Use BOMs.
• Recommendation
• Consideration of BOMs within current federation
  development should be considered
• Funding and opportunities should be sought
