What is a Special Education classroom?

• Place where students with unusual needs receive
  education

Purpose of the Special Education

• To prepare students for life after school
• These classrooms are separate from the mainstream
  classrooms in order to help students reach
  individual goals and prevent disruption in other
  classrooms.

Special Education Students are

• Students with exceptional needs due to various
  types of disabilities caused by disease or
  developmental delays

Technology in the Classroom

• Assistive technologies-help students become more
  independent
• Computer uses
• -Reading, Keeping track of Multiple Assessments
  of Students, Math and Problem Solving
• -Virtual Reality allows for new experiences in a
  safe environment

High Tech Aids

• Communicators-devices with words or pictures
  mounted on a pushbutton. When pushed the machine
  issues the word represented. (for non-verbal
  students)
• Movement sensors-mounted on wheelchairs,
  computers etc. allow the immobile to operate them
  with the use of eyes, fingers, and mouth

  players, and amplifiers

The Future of Special Education Technology

• Many new computer based technologies will better
  help the individual student become more
  independent
