that animals get ready for winter.

When the weather becomes colder, animals will

• Hibernate
• Migrate
• Gather food

Migration

• Food is hard to find in the winter.
• Some animals, such as whales, and birds, go to
  warmer climates during the winter.

Hibernation

• Some animals, such as bears, bats, and
• chipmunks, hibernate during the winter.
• Hibernation is a deep deep sleep. An animals
  heart beats slower. The animals body
  temperature lowers.

Food Gatherers

• Some animals, such as squirrels, gather food
  during the fall. They grow fat during the summer
  and winter. These animals find a warm place to
  stay. During the winter, they eat the food that
  they have stored in their home.

Active Animals Some animals must look for food
during the winter. These animals may be deer,
rabbits, and fox.
