The History of rollercoasters!
The first roller coaster was made in Russia in
the 17th Century in St Petersburg. It was made
from timber with a sheet of ice on top. Riders
slid down the ice slide and shot up the slope at
the other side! Only royalty and upper class
people were allowed to use the ride. The ride was
70 80 feet high and was used during festivals.
By 1817, 2 rollercoasters were built in France
called Les Montagues Russes. These had cars
locked to the track like modern day
rollercoasters.
The first looping rollercoaster was built in
Paris. It was 43 feet high, with a 13 foot loop
and it was British made!!

American rollercoasters
Americans like thrills so they build big heart
pumping rides which attract millions of tourists
every year from all around the globe! America has
got into the tourism trade by building theme
parks. They have hundreds of massive theme parks
with massive rides like these!

Major accidents
Since 1973 there have been approx. 40 deaths due
to roller coasters breaking down. But in recent
years the safety checks are a lot stricter and
very few accidents are happening! At Flamingo
Land in 2004 a new maintenance man tried to jump
over the track whilst the ride was running to fix
something, as he jumped over the track the train
shot down the loop and run him over! He died!
