Title: The National Archive for Petroleum Data of Mozambique
1 The National Archive for Petroleum Data of
Mozambique
- Presentation to the 5th National Data Repository
Presented by Nelson Ocuane
2WHERE IS MOZAMBIQUE WITHIN THE WORLD?
3The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- Within the National Directorate for Coal and
Hydrocarbons (Ministry of Mineral Resourse and
Energy
- Established in present form in 1999.
- Guided by Law 3/2001
- Centered in Maputo.
- Under NORAD support.
- Capability to perform various income creating
functions.
4 The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- To gain control of petroleum data and stimulate
exploration activity.
- To develop core skills locally within data
management.
- To attract more investors by promoting the
Mozambican petroleum industry. (There are now 4
active companies in Mozambique).
- Increase productivity.
- Reduce costs.
5 The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- What has been done
- Reformated 13 000 9-track field tapes from
several different formats to a modern standard
format
- In total, 13,000 9-track round tapes have been
transcribed to 4,000 IBM3480 cartridges (this
work was carried out in Norway).
- Reduce the output media 30 of the original
input tapes.
- Built Access database to track all seismic tapes
- Registered well information, cores, reports,
sepias in exel spreadsheet
- Captured prospects and cultural data and stored
in GIS database
6 The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- Data Available
- Storage of 90 000 line km of 2D seismic data
acquired and 95 wells drilled from 1968 to date
- 20,000 seismic tapes.
- 4000 sepias.
- Other associated petroleum data including
- Logs,
- Well data,
- Reports,
- Contracts in analog format
7 The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- Capabilities
- Copying seismic field data ,
- Line merging and editing (2D 3D),
- Data Storage Management,
- Seismic Data Interpretation,
- Focus on consolidation (to bring all petroleum
data under one roof),
8 The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- Technology
- Use of modern seismic tapestations
- Current with SEG adopted standard media(s),
- IBM3480/3490E Magstar 3590,
- Exabyte 8mm,
- DLT8000 20/40GB,
- Geographix,
- GIS,
- Access Database.
9 The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- Regional Collaborative Project - Tanzania
- Work together in the transcription of
offshore/onshore seismic data from 3480 to 3590
tapes
- Increase exchange of best practices and
information
- Implementation of seismic document database.
10The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- Future Plans
- Self assessment of Royalties is the new
application to be added
- New data types being actively considered
- Production data,
- Core photos.
- Transfer the core storage from Vilanculos (800
Km from Maputo) to Maputo.
11 The National Archive for Petroleum Data
- Future Plans
- Digital capture of petroleum data currently held
in analogue form.
- Creation of new seismic field dataset to reduce
storage footprint.
- Development of in-house skills.
