Title: A New Playground for Greenview Elementary
1A New Playground for Greenview Elementary
- Presentation by Max, Tyi, Kellan, and Avery
2Our Project
Our task was to redesign the current playground
so that it is safe and enjoyable for everyone.
3The Process
- First we came up with a list of items we thought
should be included in the new playground design.
- Then we evaluated them for safety and removed the
items from the list that we thought were unsafe. - After getting rid of the unsafe items, we ranked
our list from most to least important. - Finally, we asked other students and faculty to
rank the same list.
4The Process - Our Final List
After everyone had finished ranking the same list
of items, we compared them. We read each teams
reasons for placing each item in that
order. Some of the teams came up with reasons we
hadnt thought of and this made us rethink our
list. Finally, we held a class discussion to
come up with a list we could all agree on. This
is our final list.
5How the Data Supports Our Design
- 12 teams ranked the items to create a safe and
enjoyable playground. -
- The item at the top of each teams list was given
10 points and the one at the bottom was worth 1
point. We tallied the point values for each
team, added them up, and graphed them.
The graph shows the items that received the most
points. We decided that all the items that
received more than 60 points needed to be
included in our playground design.
6Collecting More Data
- To make sure that our ranked list really
represented everyone at school, we polled 100
people. We polled younger students, older
students, and adults. - We asked 100 people, both students and adults,
to respond yes or no to elements that are
important to a playground that is safe and
enjoyable.
7How the Data Supports Our Design
Our poll showed that 75 out of 100 people
thought it was important to have a sandbox, and
70 out of 100 people thought that it was
important to have a seesaw. These items were not
on our ranked list but were important in the poll
so we included them in our playground.

12Why Our Design?
- Our playground design should be selected because
- Our playground is safe. We fit everything into
the playground and have space between all the
elements. - We included all of the elements that were
considered important to the students, teachers,
and parents at our school. We used our data to
help us plan our playground. - We are the ones that will be using the
playground. The playground is so important to us
that we didnt want to let someone else design it
without hearing our input. So, we decided it was
time to get involved and make our voice heard. - We hope that you will listen to our voice and
consider our new playground design. It is the
best design for our school.
