Title: Planning for Education for Citizenship
1Planning for Education for Citizenship
- The first stage of our 3-fold approach mentioned
in the descriptor was actually part of our
developments for PSD which we began in session
2000/2001. - One of the first tasks we identified was to
define our school ethos. - Review of our Mission Statement
- Decision to identify the values shared with the
whole school community.
2Planning for Education for Citizenship
- November 2001 - Consultative document Education
for Citizenship in Scotland - The ethos of the school must be conducive to
good citizenship. - To be fully effective, these learning experiences
need to be located in participative learning
communities.
3Planning for Education for Citizenship
- November 2002 Final document Education for
Citizenship in Scotland - Stated as a Key Feature
- A key feature of education for developing
values and citizenship is the inclusive ethos and
climate of our schools and new learning
communities.
4Planning for Education for Citizenship
- After reading the first document, we identified
many features similar to those we had highlighted
in the audit of our PSD programme. - Our current development on Shared Values was the
foundation on which we could build a systematic
approach to developing in our young people the
Knowledge Understanding, Skills, Values and
Dispositions, Creativity and Enterprise
associated with Citizenship.
