• Environmental Print is one of the first sources
  of reading material for young children and serves
  as a soil for the roots of literacy.
• The professional organizations agreed that many
  children are reading environmental print such as
  road signs, grocery labels, and fast-food signs,
  before they come to school
• (Kuby, Goodstadt-Killoran, Aldridge, Kirkland,
  1999)
