Carlos Academy- he was taught by Spanish painter
Santiago Rubull - 1907, Rivera took a ship to Spain there he
learned how to incorporate several different
influences of art into his work - Studied the work of Goya-especially Goyas Black
Paintings- and then Rivera experimented with his
work - 1909, Rivera traveled to France, Belgium, and
London to become familiar with the works of other
Spanish artists and intellectuals - 1913, studies the use of juxtaposition of spacial
shapes and surfaces-this led to his transition to
Cubism - 1920, spent 17 months studying Italian art and
history

In 1904, Diego took a human anatomy course and
read about an experiment that changed his eating
habits! Diego and a few of his classmates decided
to experiment with cannibalism, which is eating
human body parts. Diegos favorite parts were the
legs, breasts, and brains of women.

- Diego Rivera fought in the Mexican Revolution
- He had a lot of difficulty in separating
fiction from reality - In 1896, when Diego was only 10, he showed
various artistic abilities and started to take
classes at San Carlos Academy - Diego was soon expelled from this academy
because of starting student riots - Beginning in 1920, Diego spent 17 months
developing over 200 sketches of works in which
all are missing today - Besides a painter, Rivera was also known for
being a draughtsman, graphic artist, book
illustrator, and costume and stage designer

Diego was sick as a child and was given a nurse
to look after him. He grew to love his nurse more
than his own mother. Diego had little trust in
humans and during the time he spent in the Sierra
Mountains he become friends with many animals. He
said that the animals loved him no matter how
dangerous they were. The animals taught him trust
animals and like them more than humans.

local prostitutes who served the Guanajuato
miners. I became their pet they became my
love says Rivera. At age 9, Diego had a
mistress that was 18 years old. She was an
American teacher at a Protestant school.
Riveras and his wife Frida were not faithful
during their marriage. They had affairs with
other people. During their first year of marriage
Rivera had an affair with Fridas younger sister.
