  • Tune in, Turn on, Calibrate

  • Open the tablet lay the screen flat
  • Turn the tablet on
  • Remove stylus

Pen Calibration
  • Before you begin, calibrate the stylus
  • This should be done each time that you change the
    screen orientation or every 1-2 Days
  • Tap Start
  • Tap Control Panel
  • Choose the Tablet Pen Settings Icon

  • Choose a setting for Left- or Right-hand writing
  • Choose a Menu location

  • Under Calibration, choose the sereen orientation
    (Portrait or Landscape) that corresponds with the
    your screen

  • Tap the center of each target in each corner
  • The pressure that you apply as you tap each
    target will determine the pressure write or tap
    with the stylus
  • The angle of the stylus as you tap each target
    will determine the angle at which you write or

  • Click OK Twice

Folders, Sections, Pages
  • How OneNote Functions

Saving
  • OneNote saves automatically
  • Notes are saved every 30 seconds.
  • Notes are saved whenever you close OneNote.
  • Notes in OneNote are saved in the My Notebook
    subfolder in the My Documents folder on your
    computer.

My Notebook 
  • My Notebook is set up like a file cabinet
    containing
  • Folders
  • Sections
  • Pages
  • Side Notes
  • Folders are separate drawers, Sections the files
    in each drawer, while Pages and Side Notes are
    the pieces of paper in the files.

Folders 
  • Folders are an organizational aid
  • Folders are optional
  • Each folder can hold many sections
  • It is best to create a folder for each individual
    topic

Naming Folders
  • Tap File
  • Tap New.
  • In the New Task Pane, tap Folder
  • This will create a new folder

Typing with the Stylus
  • Name the folder according to class, meeting type,
    etc
  • Tap the Tablet PC Input Panel (Keyboard) icon
  • The Keyboard Appears
  • Tap out a file name
  • Tip You can enlarge the keyboard by tapping
    dragging the lower right-hand corner

Sections 
  • Sections are not optional
  • Sections are used to keep pages of a similar type
    grouped together
  • Keep daily notes for each class grouped together
    in a section

Creating a Section
  • Tap on Section in the Task Pane
  • A New Section opens
  • A New Page opens as well
  • Name the section according to the date of the
    class

Pages 
  • Pages are where you actually write your notes
  • You can write, type, or draw on a page just as
    you do on paper
  • To add pages to the same set of notes, tap
    Subpage in the Task Pane
  • It's easy to add pages to a section by taping the
    New Page tab

SubPages
  • Subpages keep related material in the same place,
    without using a single overlong page that you
    have to scroll
  • Insert a sub page by taping New Subpage in the
    Task Pane
  • The Sub Page appears as a blank tab under the tab
    that you are currently using

Side Note
  • Side Note is like a computer sticky note.
  • They open in a small window on-screen to note
    small details or comments as you think of them
  • Side notes are saved in the Side Note section of
    your notebook.
  • You can have OneNote Side Note open at the same
    time.
  • When you close Side Note your notes will be saved

Creating Side Notes
  • Tap Side Note on the Task Bar
  • The Side Note will open in OneNote, the window is
    smaller
  • Write your note
  • To return to notes, tap on the Notes Page
  • The Side Note remains until it is closed, even if
    you exit the program

Extra Writing Space
  • Tap the extra writing space icon
  • Tap hold the stylus at the bottom of the page
    until the desired amount of writing space is
    delivered

The One Note Page
  • Tabs across the top of the page show sections.
  • Note the tabs colors for Folders, Sections,
    Pages Side Notes
  • Tap on the down arrow next to My Notebook to
    observe the file structure

Page Titles
  • Unlike sections or folders, pages can be named
    with the stylus
  • Tap Write todays date in the title header
  • Note that One Note reads the name, changes
    the page name in the page tab
  • The date time of creation are automatically
    entered in OneNote

Change Pen Color
  • Tap the Pen button on the Standard toolbar.
  • Choose a different width color of pen
  • Write your name
  • Tap the Type Selection Tool button to get out of
    pen mode.

Taking Notes
  • Taking notes is as easy as writing on the page
  • Write clearly legibly so that the print can be
    converted into text
  • OneNote can read cursive, but print is better
  • Be sure to have some separation between letters

Highlighting Pen
  • The Highlighter can be used before or after text
    conversion
  • Tap the Pen button on the Standard toolbar.
  • Choose a highlighting pen
  • Highlight your name
  • Tap the Text Conversion icon

Convert Handwriting to Text
  • When finished taking notes
  • Tap hold the stylus at the upper left-hand
    corner of the text until a circle appears
  • Drag the Stylus around all of the text on the
    page
  • Tap the Text Conversion Icon
  • Or tap the Tools menu, tap Convert Handwriting
    to Text
  • Or Right-click the Stylus

  • Open a New Page
  • Write the names of 5 presidents
  • Tap the Type Selection Tool
  • Move the stylus over the names
  • Notice that the names automatically highlight
  • Tap the Text Conversion Icon

Correcting Converted Notes
  • If a word is converted incorrectly,
  • Tap Type Selection Tool on the Standard toolbar
  • Tap the incorrectly converted word
  • Tap the Show Tablet PC Input Panel Icon
  • Delete Re-type the correct word

Erasing
  • Only text that has not been converted to
    handwriting can be erased
  • Write your name
  • Tap the eraser icon
  • Choose an eraser
  • Drag the eraser across the text

Deleting Text
  • Open a New Page
  • Write Delete on the screen
  • Highlight text by tapping holding the pen in the
    upper left corner
  • Once highlighted, push delete

  • Tap the page tab
  • The page the tab are highlighted blue

  • Open a New Page
  • Write Move
  • Tap the Text Selection Tool
  • Rest your pointer over the bar at the top of the
    box around your text
  • Wait for the pointer to change to a four-headed
    arrow
  • Drag the text to a different position.

  • Open a New Page
  • On the Drawing Writing Tools Toolbar, tap the
    Create a Drawing Icon
  • Draw a house
  • Tap the Pen tool to Select the drawing
  • Tap a selection handle drag until you get the
    size you want.

  • On the File menu, point to Send To
  • Tap Microsoft Office Word
  • Once converted, you may edit save notes in
    Microsoft Word

  • Note flags are symbols that can be added to
    written notes to emphasize an important item
  • Note flags can be added to both handwritten notes
    and notes converted to text

  • Choose a Note Flag Style

  • The note flag summary sorts notes by type of note
    flag.
  • If necessary, you can also create a new page
    containing only flagged notes

  • OneNote will automatically add the URL of the Web
    page to your notes.

  • Organize your notebook by class or topic Create
    a section for each class or project so that you
    can easily locate your notes.
  • Keep all of your class handouts meeting notes
    in OneNoteUse Send to Microsoft Office OneNote
    2003, available with the Microsoft Education Pack
    for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, to export your
    electronic documents from your instructor or your
    own research to OneNote.  
  • Record lecture Record your instructors' lectures
    while you take notes so that you don't miss a
    thing.
  • Use note flags to help you study Flag highlight
    important information that's going to be on your
    next test.  
  • Share your notes in e-mail study sessions Send
    notes to your friend who missed class, or create
    a shared note-taking session so you your
    classmates can study together.
