10Response to Student Feedback
- Subject continued improvement trend (Response
still room for improvement). - Tutorials and assignments valued better
synchronisation between lectures and tutorials
(R should be possible with two lecture slots
this year) - Concern over three lecturers/quite different
units (R being addressed).

11The Context
- We begin by setting the wider context in which a
company operates (and hence an engineer works)
Dr Alan J. R. Smith Mechanical and Manufacturing
Engineering
12The Context
- Both business and technical skills are
considered necessary to manage and/or supervise
modern technology based firms, and the service
industries to support them, in an increasingly
competitive world. - Exercise suggest where technical knowledge might
be needed by managers, and where business skills
might be needed by engineers
