RAINFORESTS
BY WILLIAM CLARKE
2
INTRODUCTION
Rainforests are massive areas of bushland filled
with wild plants and wildlife creatures such as
bugs, snakes, elephants, birds and lots more.
There are plants such as daisies, dandelions,
daffodils and lots more again.
3
LEVELS
  • There are three parts to rainforests
  • The Canopy the top of the trees, (the cover).
  • The Understorey the tree trunks and vines.
  • And the Forest floor the floor of the forest.

4
Animal purposes
  • Each animal has a special job in the rainforest
  • The bugs mix the leaf litter to create more
    trees.
  • The animals also mix the leaf litter by standing
    on it.
  • And the birds make the lovely music.

5
What is a Rainforest?
  • Rainforests are very dense, warm, wet forests.
They are havens for millions of plants and
    animals.
  • Rainforests are extremely important in the
ecology of the Earth. The plants of the
rainforest generate much of the Earth's oxygen.
These plants are also very important to people in
other ways many are used in new drugs that fight
    disease and illness.

6
Rainfall
  • It is almost always raining in a rainforest.
  • Rainforests get over 80 inches (2 m) of rain each
    year.
  • This is about 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm) of rain each
    week.

7
LOCATIONS
  • Australia
  • America
  • New Guinea
  • China
  • New Zealand
  • South America

TROPICS
  • There are two tropics in the world
  • The tropics of Cancer and the tropics of
    Capricorn.
  • The Capricorn tropics are boarded in the Northern
Hemisphere and the tropics of Cancer is boarded
    in the Southern Hemisphere.

9
Nepenthes
  •                                       Pitcher
    plant vines in the family
  • Nepenthaceae have leaves that form a pitcher,
    complete with a lid.
  • Sweet or foul-smelling nectar in the pitcher
attracts insects, especially ants and flies, that
lose their grip on the slick sides and fall into
    the liquid.

10
Chimpanzee
  • The intelligent, social chimpanzee has a wide
range of sounds and gestures for communication
and is probably one of the most expressive of all
    animals.
  • Thickset and robust, but more lightly built than
the gorilla, the chimpanzee has a strong body and
long limbs, the powerful arms being longer than
the legs. Its hands and feet are narrow and long,
with opposable thumbs on the hands. Males are
    slightly larger than females.
