- Now DMDX will play a speech file, and then
display a word immediately after the speech file
terminates. - The duration of the wav file frame by default is
determined by the length of the wav file. - To run this script, we need the following files
to be in the same directory as the script - camel.wav, truck.wav, blackberry.wav, carrot.wav

verbal responses according to a user defined
threshold intensity

lts Ngt Scramble items in blocks of N Items are
typically displayed in the order in which they
are encountered in the item-file. Use of the lts
Ngt parameter instructs DMDX to scramble the
items. You can scramble all items by setting
the parameter to the total number of items in the
item-file However, you can scramble in blocks (to
maintain local item probabilities) by setting N
to some subset of items
6Stroop Example Scrambling
If you are scrambling in blocks, you must end
each block of N with a \ on a separate line by
itself If there are items which you dont want
to be scrambled (e.g., messages that start and
separate blocks of trials), surround these
(before and after) items with a on a line by
itself 0 ltln -2gt "Experiment Complete!", ltln
2gt "Thank you for participating."
7Stroop Example ln
0 ltln -2gt "Experiment Complete!", ltln 2gt "Thank
you for participating." ltln Ngt Line Number By
default, DMDX will display text on one line
centered (vertically and horizontally) on the
monitor screen. To present multiple lines, use
ltln Ngt to indicate vertical position on screen.
Negative Ns are lines above center and positive
Ns are lines below center. Separate lines within
the item with a comma.

what you get (WYSIWYG). If you color the
text, it will be presented in that color. Same is
true for other formatting (bold, underline,
sizing)

is an alternative to using the parameter. It
is important to note that the millisecond
duration will not be exactly what you set with N
but instead the closest approximation in
multiples of ticks.
c Continue Used to override the need to press
the spacebar to continue past a message (item
number 0) item.

11Slide and Startle Example (Timing)
1 o001 ltbmpgt "8080" lt 360gt / lt 900gt /
Slide 8080.bmp is presented for 360 ticks (6
seconds) and a trigger value of 1 is sent to
acquisition machine to mark onset of a positive
slide. After 360 ticks, slide is erased. 901
ticks of blank screen and then 59 more ticks of
delay (from header) for a total ITI of 16 s)
12Slide and Startle Example (svp start)
2 o013 ltbmpgt "3150" lt 240gt / o113 ltwav 2gt
"wnprobe" ltsvp startgt / ltbmpgt"3150" lt 120gt / lt
840gt /
Slide 3150.bmp is presented for 240 ticks (4 s)
and a trigger value of 13 is sent to acquisition
machine to mark onset of a negative slide that
will contain a startle probe. At 4 seconds a .wav
file containing a 50ms white noise burst will
play and a trigger value of 113 to mark startle
probe onset will be sent to acquisition
machine. The ltsvp startgt parameter tells DMDX to
synch the start of the .wav file with the start
of the next frame. Therefore, the .wav file will
be played at the start of 2 more seconds of the
same slide presentation (total slide time of 6
s) Slide is erased and 841 ticks of blank screen
59 ticks of delay

Slide 7034.bmp is presented for 360 ticks (6 s)
and a trigger value of 21 is sent to acquisition
machine to mark onset of a negative slide that
will contain a startle probe during ITI. At 6
seconds, slide is erased and 5 seconds (300
ticks) of blank screen is presented. At 5
seconds, wnprobe.wav file is played synchronous
with the start of 8 more seconds (840 ticks) of
blank screen. One more tick 59 ticks of delay
for a total of 14 seconds of ITI

info on the session - Two columns of data including item number and RT
in ms - RT will be negative if error
- RT will be negative and at timeout if no response
