Definition

• Instructional Design (also known as Instructional
  Development) is a process which is followed
  throughout the development of an online lesson,
  activity or course.

Instructional Design as a

• Process- analysis of learning needs and goals and
  the development of a delivery system to meet
  those needs.
• Discipline- the branch of knowledge concerned
  with research and theory.
• Science- creating detailed specifications for the
  development, implementation, evaluation, and
  maintenance of a design
• Reality-a glimmer of an idea is developed to give
  the core of an instruction situation.
• System- an arrangement of resources and
  procedures to promote learning.
• Technology- the systematic application of
  strategies and techniques

Implementing Instructional Design Includes

• How to, plan, construct, analyze, evaluate and
  manage the instructional process.
• How to identify problems, discover learner
  characteristics, define objectives, develop
  methods and evaluate students and objectives used
  to instruct them.
