3START UPOPERATION
- Make sure to complete the following steps before
starting the machine.

- Turn the drum drive on.
- Turn the spray jets on by opening jet valve.
- Scrub the cloth with a wire brush for at least
one revolution.

- Empty the filter pan of debris and scrub water,
so as not to contaminate the cake. - When done cleaning the filter cloth, close the
drain valve located on the right side of the
drum. - Make sure valve is closed before adding DE
slurry!!
7- Turn filter aid agitator ON.
- Add a 50 pound bag of Diatomaceous Earth (DE)
into the filter aid tank. To build a thicker
cake, use 1 ½ to 2 bags of DE.

8- Turn the filter aid tank water valve to ¾ open.

- Let the filter aid material overflow to filter
pan.
2. Let the water overflow until the pan is 1/3
full.
9- Turn the filter agitator switch ON.
- Turn the drum drive switch ON.
- Set the drum speed to 60 while pre-coating.
- When the pan is 1/3 full turn the receiver pump
switch ON. - Turn the vacuum pump switch ON.
- Build filter cake up to 3 on the drum.

101. Turn spray jets OFF.

- Turn DE water overflow valve OFF.

11- Turn the wheel clock-wise until the knife touches
the filter cake, and shaves off the uneven areas.

- Continue Step 1 until the cake is even left to
right.

NOTE Keep the drum speed at 60 while shaving the
filter cake.
12- After building the filter cake, turn off the
filter aid agitator. - Turn the drum speed to 20.
- Set the knife advance. Lower numbers move the
knife in faster. Higher numbers move the knife in
slower. Adjust accordingly. - Make sure that the filter feed/ sludge transfer
pump is ON. - Press the start button. The pump will send the
water into the filter, and the knife will advance
until the cake is consumed.

13The filtrate solid should be a consistency of
damp sand or should be a minimum of 50 percent
solid content by weight. The dryness of filtrate
material will vary depending on the solid content
of the water being filtered. Too wet Slow the
drum down or speed up the knife advance. Too
Dry Speed up the drum or slow down the knife
advance.
Drum speed should be adjusted for flow rate and
dryness of solid. 10-20 is the average setting.
Knife advance should be adjusted for dryness of
solids and vacuum pressure. Typical settings are
between 1.5 to 2.5, based on the solids thickness.
NOTE Both dials should read the same number (if
applicable).
14CLEAN UP
- Turn off sludge transfer pump.
- Check to make sure the KNIFE ADVANCE is OFF.
- Manually advance the knife to approximately 1/8
from the drum to remove remaining cake. - Manually back up the knife approximately 3 to
allow room for the next pre-coat. - Open the drain valve to drain liquid out the
filter pan send to drain or pump into holding
tank and filter with next batch. - When the filter pan is empty, turn OFF RECEIVER
PUMP and VACUUM PUMP.
15Clean Up Continued
- Turn on spray bar to wash filter aid from the
drum. Wash down filter cloth with a wire brush
do not use soaps, detergents, or spray cleaners.
Wire brush only! - Open the drain valve to drain liquid out the
filter pan send to drain or pump into holding
tank and filter with next batch. - Turn OFF SPRAY BAR, DRUM DRIVE and FILTER
AGITATOR. - Wash out additional material in the filter pan
with a hose. - Clean off additional solids from the knife with a
WIRE BRUSH DO NOT attempt to clean with a
cloth, as this is a sharp blade. - Close the drain valve.
