Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain has often
been a favorite place for activity holidays like
surfing and its very big in the area of Famara
on the North of the island. The beach at Famara
offers surfers a long sandy bay and surf here is
normally all year around, but better during the
winter months between October March. During the
summer months you can just use board-shorts as
the sea and air temperatures are very pleasant
but its advisable to bring a rash vest to avoid
excess exposure to the sun.

Catching a wave and looking cool in a wetsuit is
what surfing is all about but for your first
lesson forget all of the above. When starting to
surf you will need to conquer the basic skills in
order to catch any waves and impress your partner
or friends. Looking cool, you will not.
For a lesson you can expect to pay around 30-40
including all the hire of a surfboard and
wetsuit, but this is far cheaper that buying your
own board and suit to find the sport is not right
for you.

The area of Famara is away from other busy
tourist spots so there is far less people about
so take care with leaving belongings on display.
The surf is perfect for beginners and improvers
as there is plenty of space for everyone on the
waves, however be aware of some possible strong
currents that could ruin your day.   There are a

the area all offering services from basic to
