3EXECUTIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Goal Increase funding from the City of Norfolk
and the General Assembly - Gained voter approval for the General Obligation
Bond Referendum (GOB) and obtained funding for
NSUs Research and Innovations to Support
Empowerment (RISE) Center (18 M), as well as
approval of language to accelerate the RISE
Project - Obtained funding (3M) from the City of Norfolk
to provide infrastructure, water and sewage for
the RISE Center Complex - Increased state funding for NSU by 56, in spite
of declining revenues over the past five years

4EXECUTIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Goal Upgrade campus infrastructure
- Obtained capital outlay funding from 2003 General
Assembly session for renovations to the
Communications Bldg., Teacher Education Building,
Robinson Technology Building, HVAC systems and
handicapped access - Obtained capital outlay funding to purchase the
Norfolk Community Hospital (3 M)
5EXECUTIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Goal Attract and retain quality students and
improve graduation rate - Improved retention rate by 11
- Improved graduation rate by 35
- Gained approval from the State Council of Higher
Education in Virginia (SCHEV) for, and began
implementation of, six new bachelors and masters
programs mandated by the Office of Civil Rights
(OCR) in electronics engineering, optical
engineering, computer science and criminal
justice - Increased passage rate on PRAXIS I from 27 in
1999-2000 to 91 in 2001-02 - Increased passage rate for Praxis II to 85 in
2002 (State requirement is 70)
6EXECUTIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Goal Stronger relations between Board and
Administration - Coordinated with Governor Warners administration
for the appointment of five new members to the
NSU Board of Visitors - Worked with the University Rector to streamline
Board meetings and committees of the Board - Created a template and numbering system to be
used for developing and publishing
university-wide policies and procedures via the
web - Increased Board awareness of higher education
policies and issues through subscriptions to the
Chronicle of Higher Education and by increasing
their access to reference materials from the
Association of Governing Boards as well as other
pertinent articles, publications and journals

- Goal Improve public image
- Served on numerous boards NAFEO, MEAC and Lumina
- Served as guest speaker or on education panels
(i.e. AASCU) - Received National Administrator of the Year Award
from the Association of Educational Office
Professionals and was selected by Dominion
Resources to receive a Strong Man and Woman Award
in January 2004.

- Established the Presidential Institute for
Administrative Leadership Development through
Title III funding

- Goal Lift political clout (State)
- Enlisted the aid of the Legislative Black Caucus
to obtain reinstatement of state funding
designated in the Office of Civil Rights Accord
(OCR) for new mandated academic programs during
budget cuts and obtained carry-over language for
all OCR funding - Served as Civilian Aide to the Army for Virginia

- Goal Lift political clout (National)
- Served on President Bushs White House Initiative
for Historically Black Colleges and Universities - Worked with the Southeastern Universities
Research Association to organize a consortium of
HBCUs to share technology resources, and help
close the digital divide (CMSIT) - Testified in Congress in support of two pieces of
legislation that would provide technology
research funding for minority-serving
institutions across the nation (S. 196
sponsored by Senator George Allen and H.R. 2183
sponsored by Congressman Randy Forbes)

College to provide DNIMAS scholarships for 8

14Hosted Pre-Service Teacher Training Program
Conference
- Program objective--to enhance pre-service
elementary and middle school teachers knowledge,
skills, and strategies for teaching mathematics
and science - Award for 2002-2003--800,000
- NASA/NSU Eighth Annual Conference was held March
27-29, 2003 in Alexandria, Virginia, Attendance - More than 650 students and faculty members from
51 colleges - 4 faculty advisors and 53 students from NSU

the financial statements - Exceed the 95 State prompt pay standard by
processing 98 of payment on-time.
