2GBC Mission Statement
- The mission of the Greater Baltimore Committee is
to improve the business climate of the Greater
Baltimore region by organizing its corporate and
civic leadership to develop solutions to the
problems that affect the regions competitiveness
and viability.

- The GBC is an organization of leading business,
professional and civic leaders who work to
improve the quality of life in the greater
Baltimore region by responding to problems that
affect the region and seeking out opportunities
for long-term economic growth.
4What is the GBC?
- A regional organization
- Serves Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore,
Carroll, Harford and Howard Counties - Members include 450 businesses, non-profits,
educational and civic institutions in the region
5History of the GBC
- Founded in 1955 by 80 business leaders who wanted
to take prompt and aggressive action to solve
some of the citys most pressing problems. - At the first GBC meeting, Robert Levi, EVP of
Hecht Company, said there has been too much talk
and too little action on municipal problems. - The GBC set out to be an action committee to
bring about rapid tangible improvements. Over
the years it has a track record of getting things
done.

8- In 1978, the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan
Baltimore merged with the GBC, giving it a strong
base for an influential business voice
representing not only Baltimore, but also Anne
Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard
counties. With this change, the GBC agenda turned
toward broader regional community development
issues.

- Bridging the Gap is a multi-faceted initiative
to evolve the business culture of the Greater
Baltimore region by developing and fostering
relationships between majority and minority and
women-owned businesses, thereby helping to create
a dramatic increase in the opportunities
available to minority and women-owned businesses
to find new business, develop new capabilities,
forge strategic alliances and create legacy
wealth.
