3A Place of
Tradition.
The first fraternity was founded at Iowa State in
1875. Since then, the Greek Community has grown
into one of the strongest in the nation.

Tradition.
Fraternity men govern their own chapters, a
governing council, and are among the most
well-respected leaders on campus.

Tradition.
Fraternity leaders plan all-campus events, such
as Homecoming, two annual blood drives, and
Veishea, the largest student run festivity in the
United States.

Fraternity leaders are key figures in discussions
with City Council for aesthetic external
requirements and tax abatements for fraternity
residences.

Greek philanthropies raised over 86,000 in 2004
alone. Service projects range from domestic
abuse awareness to Cystic Fibrosis

Innovation.
For the past three years, the Interfraternity
Council has been a finalist for the Jellison
Award for fraternity councils, awarded by the
Mid-American Greek Association.

The Interfraternity Council has also co-received
Best in Practice recognition for multiple
council practices, as well as the Kaleidoscope
Award for innovation in 2005.

Twenty percent of the organizations represent a
diverse membership base - cultural, sexual
orientation, faith and academic.

The Iowa State Interfraternity Council was the
first in the nation to officially recognize Delta
Lambda Phi, a fraternity for gay, bisexual, and
progressive men, as a colony.

Before the establishment of the Multicultural
Greek Council, the men of Sigma Lambda Beta, a
historically Latino fraternity, found membership
on IFC.

Innovation.
Colonies are welcome to visit and petition to
become part of the Community. IFC is currently
home to three fraternity colonies.

Friendship.
Theta Delta Chi and Theta Chi, neighboring
fraternities, share a house cook.

Friendship.
In 2005, Alpha Kappa Lambda and Phi Kappa Theta,
traditionally smaller fraternities, co-hosted a
Winter Formal that neither chapter would have
been able to fund alone.

Friendship.
Two or more fraternities pair together a semester
to serenade a sorority and work on
Community-building activities Homecoming in the
Fall and Greek Week in the Spring.

Friendship.
ISU fraternities promote fraternalism a
brotherhood among all men, friendship among all
Greeks.

Being a fraternity man isnt about one chapter,
but about a fraternalism beyond walls.
