2HISTORY
Team handball originated in Germany in the 1900s
and became an Olympic sport for men in 1972 in
Munich, Germany and the 1976 Summer Olympics for
women. Team Handball is an exciting, and intense
sport. Players enjoy this sport because it is a
fast paced sport. Team Handball is actually the
second most popular sport in Europe next to
soccer and it is still on the rise in the United
States. Teamwork is one of the most important
qualities it takes to be successful in Team
Handball.
3EQUIPMENT
- -The goal is 2 meters by 3 meters and the net in
the goal is 1.5 meters deep at the base of the
goal. - -The ball consist of a rubber bladder and white
leather cover which varies in size depending on
who is participating. Mens balls 23-24 inches
and 15-17 ounces and womens balls 21-22 inches
and 12-14 ounces. - -Player numbers are 1 to 20. Uniform shirts and
shorts are the same color. The goalkeeper must
wear a different color shirt from teammates and
opponents.
4FACILITY
This game would be played in a gym. A regulation
team handball court measures 20 meters by 40
meters. The court is similar to a basketball
court but larger.
5SKILLS
- Basic skills that are used in this sport are
- Running, jumping, dodging, passing, dribbling,
catching, and shooting.
6BASIC RULES
B A S I C R U L E S
- The duration of the game is two-30 minute halves
and one-10 minute halftime.
