2Introduction
- The French Revolution took place in France in
the late 1780s. France at the time was an
absolute monarchy. Louis XIV was the envy of all
other rulers in Europe. The population was
divided up into three groups but only two of
those groups were privileged. Women and poor men
fought for their freedom. The French Revolution
was very influential to thinkers of our time.
3Meeting of the Estates General
- The Estates General took place in 1788. The
point of holding the meeting of the Estates
General was so that the third estate, the
peasants, could have their representatives
doubled in size so that they could have equal
power to the other two. Louis stated that the
question of "doubling the Third Estate" was
preventing the solution of increasing the
financial crisis. The French Parliament conceded
the request, and then declared that each Estate
gets one vote. The Third Estate was angry because
the idea of vote by order would be unfair because
they would be outvoted 2/3. The Third Estate
walked out. They were met by people from the
First Estate and the Third Estate declared
themselves The National Assembly. The Meeting of
the Estates General was the beginning of equal
rights.
It will only be fair if every person in each
Estate gets one vote!
No, each Estate gets one vote!
4Tennis Court Oath
- The Tennis Court Oath took place in 1789. The
National Assembly was locked out of the annual
meeting place. The National Assembly did not want
an absolute government. The National Assembly
stated that they werent going to leave until a
new constitution was written up and people
pledged that there would be a reorganization of
the taxing system. They (The National Assembly)
also wanted basic rights freedom of speech,
freedom of press, etc. The Tennis Court Oath went
on for about a week. The constitution that was
written up about the National Assemblys rights
is known as The Constitution of 1791. The Tennis
Court Oath was the rise of democracy.
Let us in! Were not leaving until we get a
written constitution stating that we get equal
rights as you!
5Storming of the Bastille
On July 14, 1789 people stormed the Bastille. The
Bastille was a prison that symbolized an absolute
monarchy. A mob of people got through the walls
of the Bastille and took some gunpowder for their
empty guns. The king questioned the mob, Is this
a revolt and the people replied back with, No
Sire it is a Revolution. The prison was later
burned down and the National Assembly once again
made a change.
This is no revolt. Its a revolution!!
6March on Versailles
We wont leave until we get our bread!!!!
On March 5, 1789 women took over for the day!
Over seven thousand women marched twelve miles to
the palace in which the king lived at. When the
women reached to the palace they told the king
that they were not going to leave until he
promised to give them bread. The king agreed to
go back and give these women bread. The March on
Versailles was a success for the seven thousand
angry women!
7Reign of Terror
- The Reign of Terror was when Louis was charged
for treason. Robespierre established courts only
for Louis. Louis was executed at the guillotine.
Robespierre is said to be responsible for Louis
death. When Louis died France turned into a
republic. So was the end of an absolute monarchy.
Look what youve done to our country, you deserve
to die!!!
8Rise of Napolean
I am the greatest! Never give up. We are the
strongest nation. We are the best.
- Napolean is one of the most remarkable leaders
of all times. He crowned himself emperor on
December 2, 1804. Not only did he crown himself
emperor but he maintained the reforms of the
revolution, a task only one incredible man could
do. He was also an amazing military leader. He
had great military success. Napolean will always
be known as one of the best emperors of all time.
9Conclusion
- In conclusion the French Revolution greatly
impacted on the popular culture of the late 18th
century and the early 19th century. It showed
many other nations that France was not a weak
country anymore. The transformation of an
absolute monarchy, to a dictator, to a democracy
was a big reformation and improvement in the
French society.
