14Finding a Book in the Library
- On campus use Internet Explorer to access the
University Homepage - Off Campus go to
- www.msmary.edu
- Choose Library from the gold box on the left
15On the Librarys Homepage
- Click on SHARC to search our catalog OR
- Click on Online Databases to find periodical
articles
16- Choose SHARC the Librarys online catalog to
find books
17- Select a search type from the menu
18- Note that books can be found at any of the
consortium libraries! - Click on the number of the entry that you want
19- Here you will get a full citation including
author, title, publisher and call number and
availability.
20If a book is checked out at your library, you may
borrow a copy from another consortium member
21To borrow an item from another consortium
library, choose Request from the top toolbar
and follow instructions
22Note If you DO NOT find the book in SHARC,
choose Request an item NOT found in catalog
23You can manage your Library items from the
Patron link and even renew items online
24Finding a Journal Article
- Journals, magazines and newspapers are indexed by
subject - Some of these indexes are in print
- Most recent ones are online in the form of
databases
25To Find Articles Online
- Choose a subject specific database from the menu
or a generic one such as EBSCOhost.
26Choose EBSCOhost Web
27- To do a general search the default is Academic
Search Premier hit continue.
28- This is the Basic Search using Keywords
- You can limit to Full Text
29- You can also limit to articles from scholarly
journals on the search screen OR
30You can limit to articles from Scholarly
Journals, Magazines, or Newspapers after you
get to the Results screen.
31- Your results. Some are Full Text, but some are
not. - Click on any in the list to see a full citation.
32- The citation includes title of the article, title
of the journal, date, volume, and page numbers. - But how do I get the article if full text is not
included?
33How To Get Your Hands on the Article
- If it is Full Text online print it!
- If it isnt, check the Find Journals, Magazines,
Newspapers list on the Library Homepage.
34Click on Find Journals, Magazines and
Newspapers to see if MSM subscribes to a
particular periodical.
35Alphabetical Listing of Periodicals available at
MSM will tell you if a periodical is available
Bound, on MF, or in another online database.
36What if I cant find it in the Periodical
Holdings List?
- You can fill out an Interlibrary Loan form
from the Request link in SHARC.
