thinks or believes.
4An opinion cannot be proven.
5Words such as best, worst, good and bad are often
used when giving opinions.
6Now lets read a story together and practice what
weve learned.
7Read each sentence and tell whether it is a fact
or an opinion.
8The underlined phrases are hints to help you.
9My family and I moved out West in the spring of
1849.
10We settled in a tent town called Gopher Gulch.
11That was the worst little town in the world.
12There were no sidewalks, just muddy paths.
13Gopher Gulch was a lonesome place, too.
14There were only three families there when we
moved in.
15After a while, Gopher Gulch started to grow.
16We even put up a sign that said Gopher Gulch.
17Fine new businesses seemed to be popping up
overnight!
18Ten new businesses opened up in the spring of
1850.
19It was a good thing to have a bakery and a
general store.
20Many people stayed in the new hotel.
21People living in tents enjoyed taking baths in
the new bath house.
22My mom will be glad when we can build a church.
