Personal Hygiene and Table Manners Some of the
many great skills that are taught at His Place
include practicing good personal hygiene and good
table manners. Teaching important life skills is
crucial at such an early age as it sets the
foundation for the children to continue
practicing these skills throughout their
life. Parents are encouraged to practice these
skills with their children at home to ensure
consistency in instruction.

Table manners was one of the first of many life
skills I observing being taught at the center.
Teaching the skills and rules are consistent at
every meal time and great focus is put on the
mealtime rules to ensure they are being followed.
I was given the assignment of catching these
rules being practiced in photographs and was told
to create a visual representation of the rules
for the teacher to refer to. The five basic
rules include Use a napkin Chew with your mouth
closed Take small bites Throw away food that
falls on the floor Throw away trash These rules
were created, caught on camera and posted on the
refrigerator near the toddlers eating area.

Hand Washing and Tooth Brushing Hand washing and
tooth brushing are two very important hygiene
skills that one must learn. I was given the task
of catching each step in the hand washing and
tooth brushing process and creating an aid for
the children to use when practicing these
processes. Each step was represented in a
picture along with a short and simple description
describing the step and an arrow to lead the
children to the next step. I created the hand
washing aids for the toddler room, the boys
preschool restroom and the girls preschool
restroom. I created tooth brushing aids for the
boys preschool restroom and the girls preschool
restroom.
