skylights are independently tested and certified
to meet strict energy efficiency standards.
ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors, and
skylights are tailored to four climate zones.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES for ENERGY STAR Windows,
Doors, and Skylights
  • U-Factor
  • Measures heat transfer through the window
  • Tells you how well window insulates
  • The lower the U-Factor, the better the window
    insulates
  • SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient)
  • Measures the solar heat admitted
  • Tells you how well the product blocks heat caused
    by sunlight
  • The lower the SHGC, the better the window blocks
    solar heat

Federal Tax Credits for ENERGY STARWindows,
Doors, and Skylights
  • Valid for home improvement projects in 2009
    through 2010
  • Must be installed in the appropriate climate zone
  • Windows and Skylights
  • 30 of product cost up to 1,500 (not including
    installation)
  • ALL ENERGY STAR qualified windows and skylights
    are eligible
  • Exterior Doors
  • 30 of product cost up to 1,500 (not including
    installation)
  • Most ENERGY STAR qualified doors are eligible
    except for those installed in the following
    California counties Alpine, Lassen, Modoc, Mono
    and Plumas. In these counties, exterior doors
    must have a U-Factor of 0.35 and any Solar Heat
    Gain Coefficient (SHGC)
  • Consumers should save the ENERGY STAR label from
    all installed windows, doors, and skylights as
    verification for the IRS

label which tells you whether the product is
