History of Cable Television
  • Cable Television was born in the 1940s, in the
    mountains of Pennsylvania.
  • It was then called Community antenna Television
    or CATV.
  • Signal could not pass through Mountains so John
    Walson put an antenna on a pole in a nearby
    mountain.
  • Because of this signal cable signal were received
    to store.
  • Milton Jerrald Strapp developed a system to
    amplify cable systems called MATV.
  • Cable television in a form similar to today was
    born when he wired Lansford using coaxial cable
    and commercially manufactured boosters.

History of Satellite TV
  • In 1976, premium programmer Home Box Office (HBO)
    made history by initiating satellite delivery of
    programming to cable headends with the
    heavyweight boxing battle dubbed, "The Thriller
    From Manila.
  • In 1977 Pat Robertson launched the first
    satellite-delivered "basic" cable service, CBN
    Cable Network, the predecessor of The Family
    Channel.
  • Taylor Howard a lead scientist on several
    interplanetary NASA probes with key communication
    systems of the Apollo Program, would soon build
    America's first consumer DTH system.
  • Approximately sold 5,000 systems in 1980.
  • Each of these systems, boasting an antenna 12
    feet or more in diameter, fetched a whopping
    10,000.
