The Ferry
The al-Salam Boccaccio 98 that was carrying 1400
people sank in the Red Sea on the 2nd of February
2006. The Ferry sank about 80km(50miles) off
Egypt during the trip from Duba in Saudi Arabia
to Safaga. Officials say there were 185 dead
bodies and about 300 survivors, but hundreds more
are missing. Most of the passengers were
Egyptians working in Saudi Arabia but some were
pilgrims returning from Mecca.

Saher's story
Saher- Abdul- Majids husband worked in Saudi
Arabia, and she went to visit him once every
month. Saher had left her two eldest sons with
their grandmother in Egypt so they could go to
school as the schools in Saudi Arabia were to
expensive for them. Saher only took Liqa who was
only one year and four months old. When the
accident occurred Saher said that the passengers
saw smoke, and because they didnt understand
what was happening they decided to tell the
captain. He told them that it was nothing to
worry about. But it was something to worry about
as the captain immediately phoned the company of
the ferry, the only help that he got from them
was to try and cover the hole where the smoke was
coming out and to tell the passengers not to
panic they warned him not to tell them that there
had been a mistake in ship because there had been
another accident from that company before and
this would stop people from riding their ferries.

The captain succeeded in getting the passengers
to stay calm, but that didnt stop them from
questioning. After half an hour instead of smoke
there was fire, and that was when people started
calling rescue teams. The captain was only
interested in saving his own life got on his
private helicopter and flew off. A few minutes
later the ship tipped over which left Saher
holding on to the edge of the ship clinging onto
her screaming daughter, as the ship tipped lower
and lower the freezing sea water gushed onto
Saher and her daughters face. When Liqas face
started going blue Saher really got desperate all
she wanted was to save her daughter. As Saher
was swimming round trying to find a life boat
lots of water got in Liqas mouth, after about
three minutes she died. Saher and her daughters
dead body were soon hit by a huge wave and Saher
dropped her Liqa. At the moment Saher is trying
to find Liqas body because every time she goes
to sleep Saher gets nightmares about the fishes
eating Liqas dead body.

261 The likeness of those who spend their
wealth in the Way of Allah, is as the likeness of
a grain (of corn) it grows seven ears, and each
ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold
increase to whom He wills. And Allah is
All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs,
All-Knower. 262 Those who spend their wealth in
the Cause of Allah, and do not follow up their
gifts with reminders of their generosity or with
injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them
shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
This ayah is from the sura celled Al Bakara .

How could we help ?
There are lots more people who suffered even more
than Saher like six year old Ahmed who is the
only one in his family now. He was left for over
24 hours in the freezing water and shock of
seeing his own family die that now he cant even
speak properly. If you were the captain what
would you have done? Would you have called rescue
teams when you knew what was going on? Or would
you have stood there without caring about the
other Muslims that have paid money for a safe
trip How can this be Islam. Prophet Muhammad

Muslims in their caring, mercy, and support for
each others, is like one body, when a part of it
suffers from pain, the rest of it would suffer by
a fever end sleeplessness.
And at the moment Islam is falling apart because
not all Muslims are united also because when
there was a war in Palestine, Iraq or Pakistan
no other Muslim country helped.
Although we cant control what the countries do
we can control what we do, if all the Muslims in
one town helped each other and treated each other
equally then the children would learn from them
and not only will this be a start for the
younger generations, but more importantly Allah
will be happy. Also they will not feel lonely as
they will know that someone is helping them. If
