Have you ever seen a librarian in the wild ?

• Librarians are found all over the world, in all
  climates.
• In general, librarians prefer a quiet and
  secluded environment.

Where do librarians come from ?

• Some scientists think librarians evolved from an
  earlier life form, such as the Industrious
  Bibliophile (see image at right.)
• Other scientists think librarians crossed a land
  bridge to the New World many millennia ago.
• This theory is known as the Commute.

What do librarians eat ?

• Librarians eat a variety of different foods,
  depending on their chosen habitat.
• Librarians are capable of consuming
  one-and-a-half times their own body weight daily,
  especially if they live in a cold climate.

When do librarians sleep ?

• A recent study of a librarian family group
  indicated that librarians may co-operate to get
  the rest they need. While one librarian remains
  alert at a reference desk, another may sleep in
  the stacks.

Do librarians have any natural enemies ?

• Librarians are low on the food chain. Their most
  common predators are administrators (left) and
  patrons (below).
• Librarians most often defend themselves by
  feigning death.

What do librarians do all day ?

• This is a good question. We are only just
  beginning to learn about librarians daily
  activities.
• Early research indicates that librarians are
  solitary, and spend much of their time writing
  grant proposals.

Can librarians be dangerous?

• If you encounter a librarian in the wild, crouch
  low and stay calm. Librarians are usually
  friendly, but if they are startled, cornered, or
  provoked they can inflict severe bites.

Has anyone ever communicated with a wild
librarian ?

• Because librarians are so reclusive, it has been
  impossible to study them in depth. In early 1995
  a librarian research expedition disappeared
  entirely, leaving no trace but the photograph
  opposite, and the cryptic phrase AACR2
  scratched into a limestone obelisk.

How can I help librarians in the wild ?

• Learn more about librarians through organizations
  such as the SPCL (the Society for the Prevention
  of Cruelty to Librarians.)
• Visit your local public library, and bring
  cupcakes.
