• Keep it simple.

Contrast

• Adds visual interest,
• Contrast fonts, borders, colors, shapes, sizes,
  etc.
• Make the contrast interesting, not harsh or
  distracting.

Repetition

• Use a master slide.
• Use fonts consistently.
• Use bullets, line size, colors, and alignment
  consistently.

Alignment

• Dont use more than one text alignment per page.
• Dont assume centering is best.
• Align text with pictures they describe.

Proximity

• The eye should be pulled in the direction of
  information.
• Avoid too many separate elements.
• Read from top left to bottom right.
• Show the reader what to read.

Fonts

• Use sans-serif fonts in the title (this is
  Trebuchet 66).
• use serif fonts for your bullet points (this is
  Perpetua 44).
• Dark text on light background works better.

Borders

• Borders help focus the information.
• Use frames around pictures.
• Dont use frames around clipart.
• Use custom borders to convey your theme.

Pictures

• Crop pictures so they only include the necessary
  detail.
• Make sure people are looking into the center, not
  facing outwards.
• Place explanatory text next to the picture.

Bullets

• Play around with bullets to see which work best.
• Keep them consistent.
• Remember they change size with your font.

Transitions

• Transitions can be very distracting.
• Most professional presentations avoid
  transitions.
• If you do use transitions, use simple ones and be
  consistent.

Graphics

• You can insert pictures, sound, or movies into
  your PowerPoint.
• Create a folder for the presentation.
• This folder will hold your PowerPoint file and
  all graphics files.

Beforehand

• Practice.
• Make a duplicate of your folder so nothing gets
  lost.
• Make sure everything works.

On the Big Day

• Check to make sure equipment is set up and
  working.
• Make sure you focus on your audience no matter
  what happens.
• Dont read the screen.
