Columns
  • Types of Columns - p. 164
  • Newspaper columns - the type you find in
    newspapers and newsletters, where the text
    snakes from the top of a column to the bottom
    of the column and then back to the top of the
    next column
  • Parallel columns - are best used for lists,
    tables, or any text of numbers that you want to
    keep aligned

  • Several different types of preset column formats
    can be selected
  • Lines can be placed between columns
  • The Apply To selection box indicates to Word what
    part of the document will be affected by the
    Columns command

Entering Data in a Table
  • Text automatically wraps to the next line in a
    table cell
  • Use the Tab key to position to the next cell
  • Use the Shift Tab keys to move to a prior cell
  • Pressing the Tab key in the last cell of a table
    inserts a new row

Enhancing Table Appearance
  • Word provides the ability to add formatting to a
    table to give it a more professional appearance
    using the Table, AutoFormat command sequence.

    can select from a number of different formulas

Sorting Data

  • Each line followed by an Enter is treated as a
    paragraph
  • Can sort by field number
  • Key - the entity (field or word) by which text is
    to be sorted
  • Able to sort in ascending or descending order
    within a key
