- A farmer has brought in his calf that has been
attacked by a panther and has a broken leg. - The fracture is supported with a plaster and the
calf is given pain medication

- A puppy is suffering from ricketts, lack of
calcium and phosphorus leading into malformation
of the joints. - With proper nutrition and adequate sunlight and
healthy exercise with other animals at the
shelter the puppy was soon able to be rehomed
with healthy legs.

- This ex-racehorse has cut his cheek by some sharp
metal. The wound is cleaned and sutured.

- Dr. Suzi sterilizes stray dogs that have been
caught the previous day. All the dogs are also
vaccinated against rabies before they are
returned back on the streets where they were
caught. -

- A team of animal field workers attends a cattle
herd that is suffering from Foot and Mouth
disease. The team treats the maggot infested
ulcers and wounds in the hoofs of the animals.

- This calf is suffering from diarrhea and
infection in the umbilicus. - It needs antibiotics and oral rehydration fluids
for several days to balance the fluid loss due to
diarrhea

- A cow has maggot infested wound and has to be
hold down for the removal of the maggots and
cleaning of the wound. - The treatment is continued with daily cleanings
and long acting antibiotic injection.

clinic from Ooty for castration.

- There was 30kg of plastic garbage in the rumen of
this bullock (see the previous slide). - This is a common problem in India where cattle
grazes on the roadsides, eating from the garbage
bins. - The only treatment is surgical removal of the
plastic
13- A panther had attacked this buffalo and the
bitewound has developed into an abscess. - The treatment includes deep cleaning and draining
of the abscess, antibiotics and pain medicine

vast livestock population, this service is
essential for the health and welfare of the
domestic animals
- Common problems are traumatic injuries, maggot
infested wounds, infectious diseases, rumenal
disorders and problems related to pregnancy,
birth and post partum time. - Large scale deworming and vaccination programs
are undertaken to provide timely preventive
medicine.
