1. Be certain you understand 19th century
nationalism --its roots --its expressions (how
it is portrayed throughout various cultures
and/or arts --its results 2. Cite at least three
elements or aspects of The Moldau that express
nationalism. 3. Discuss its programmatic
features. Cite imagery details and explain how
they are portrayed in the music. Since the piece
is so short, you should be able to do this with
every image. Use the program guide that follows.

  certain brass instrument that has long been
  associated with fox hunts. What is it?
• 2. Peasant Wedding Do you think Smetana has the
  wedding ceremony in mind, or the reception?
  Describe what you hear in the music to defend

  part? What instrument(s) play(s) that part?
  What instruments suggest the calm, quietness of
