Making a Request

• HOW? Written request on school letterhead
• WHEN? Four weeks advanced notice
• WHICH? Lunar, Meteorite, or both
• DATES? List preferred dates
• RETURN? In two weeks

Security Guidelines

• MAILING ADDRESS? Educational institution at a
  street address
• STORAGE? Safe or vault with built-in combination
  lock (preferably in a bank safety-deposit box or
  at a police department)

Please Avoid

• Post office boxes
• Key locks and portable safes
• Your home safe
• Any safe that also stores valuables
• Public display in commercial areas
• Leaving the sample unattended

Before Arrival

• Identify the use and storage locations
• Alert campus security of the use and storage
  locations
• Arrange for additional security if possible

Remember!!

• Keep samples under your constant control at all
  times while in use.
• Publicly display samples in non-commercial areas
  (i.e., libraries) only.
• Display samples for non-profit use only.
• Be prepared for NASA security inspection at any
  time.

Returning Samples

• Return samples on or before the due date.
• Call your post office in advance.
• Return all items as they were sent via
  Restricted-Registered Mail.
• Use gummed paper tape to seal the box.
• Obtain a receipt.
