Causes of Female Hair Loss
1. Age

• After menopause, many women experience thinning
  hair.

2. Heredity

• Family history of female baldness may contribute
  to hair loss.
• Genetic conditions such as androgenetic alopecia
  can lead to female hair loss.
• 50 of women experience this condition.
• Generally occurs in the late 50s or 60s.

3. Telogen Effluvium

• Occurs after pregnancy, major weight loss, or
  other stress.
• May be a side effect of certain medications.
• Remission is possible, but it may be chronic for
  some women.

4. Medical Conditions

• Some skin diseases may cause hair follicles to
  scar, resulting in thinning hair.
• Thyroid imbalances, auto-immune disorders, low
  ferritin levels and anemia may all contribute to
  hair loss.

Treatment of Female Hair Loss

• Hair Transplantation
• Follicular grafts are taken and transplanted to
  thinning areas.

• Scalp Reduction
• Excess skin is removed and areas with thicker
  hair are drawn together, reducing the appearance
  of thinning or bald areas. No longer done in US.

• Medication
• May be oral or topical
• Female specific options available.
