Title: TOP COLORADO DESTINATIONS: COPPER MOUNTAIN
1Top Colorado Destinations Copper Mountain

3Its so tempting so sum up the entire mountainous
region of Colorado in four short words summer
hiking, then skiing. And yes, you certainly can
ski, snowboard, and snowmobile well into early
spring. But even areas like Copper Mountain,
whose very identity is linked to being a ski
resort town, have much more to offer.
4Getting to Copper Mountain Located along the
I-70 corridor in northwestern Colorado, getting
to Copper Mountain by car isnt particularly
difficult. If you are flying in, Eagle County
Regional Airport is about 55 miles to the west.
This airport is served by major carriers like
Delta, Continental, United, and American, but
flights can be seasonal or year-round, depending
on the airline. Denver International Airport,
the states largest airport, is just over 100
miles to the east. Both follow I-70.
5Staying at Copper Mountain There is certainly no
lack of places to choose from when it comes to
staying in the area. Luxury resort? Check. Bed
and Breakfast? Check. Hotel? Check. Copper
Mountain vacation rental? Absolutely. If you
cant find your ideal rental, or if youd like a
spot a bit further from the scene of the action
(and a bit easier on your wallet), consider
including local towns in your search. Vacation
rentals in Frisco or Dillon are within 20
minutes drive. Once again, follow I-70.
6Weather Because of the mountains, the weather
can be unusual. Of course, expect it to be cold
and snowy in the winter. But the snow may not
fully melt until May or June, and even in the
summer, nights can be cool. Keep in mind that,
usually, the higher up the mountains you go, the
colder it will be, even in warm months. The
exception to this rule is on cold nights, when
the frigid air collects in the valley. Bottom
line bring warm clothes.
7Things to Do Did we mention skiing,
snowmobiling, and other winter sports? Cooper
Mountain, with its shops clustered village-like
at the base on the mountain, comes into its own
in the winter. The terrain offers slopes for
skiers of all kinds, from beginners and families
up through intermediate skiers to downright
experts. Inside activities include shopping,
fine dining, and a fitness center.
8This is not to say that Copper Mountain closes up
shop when the snow melts. On the contrary, many
activities are just getting started. Counting in
nearby Breckenridge, you can stroll the art
district and visit a few galleries or use that
formerly snow-laden mountain for hiking. Other
summer activities include boating, fishing, golf,
hot air ballooning, and horseback riding. Over
thirty concerts are presented at the Riverwalk
Center. The musical styles performed range from
classical to jazz.
