Else Holmelund Minarik
- Else Holmelund Minarik is the author of the
Little Bear series of children's books, which
were successful as books, and were also made into
a successful children's TV series. - She was born in Denmark. Her family moved to the
United States when she was four. She taught
first-graders during WWII. - She begin writing stories for her students when
she could not find good books for her first
graders to read.

Maurice Sendak
- Maurice Sendak grew up in New York. He was a
frail and sickly child. Spending much of his
young life indoors, he turned to books at an
early age. - His view of the outside world was often limited
to the family that came to visit him and the
little that he could see from his window. - So he began to draw and to allow his imagination
to run free. - One of his best known childrens book is WHERE
THE WILD THINGS ARE
