Introduction

• Sport management is not a modern phenomenon .
  Perhaps it has existed since the time of the
  ancient Greeks when combat among gladiators or
  animals attracted crowds of spectators.

  there are many parallels between Herod s Games
  and ours. however ,that sport and management have
  changed dramatically since ancient times.

• DeSensi, Kelley, Blanton, and Beitel (1990) have
  suggested that sport management includes "any
  combination of skills related to planning,
  organizing, directing, controlling, budgeting,
  leading, and evaluating within the context of an
  organization or department whose primary product
  or service is related to sport and/or physical
  activity"

• Sport management has been defined as "the
  coordination of resources, technologies,
  processes, personnel, and situational
  contingencies for the efficient production and
  exchange of sport services" (Chelladurai, 1994,
  p. 15).

• The increased popularity of sport, and the demand
  for an efficient management of resources in that
  sector, may partially explain why sport
  management, both as a professional occupation and
  an academic discipline, has experienced such
  exceptional growth.

  programs in sport management have been
  implemented, and their number continues to
  increase exponentially.
