Empathy--Is the ability to put oneself in
anothers shoe to view a situation from the
perspective of the other person to see through
his/her eyes to know where he/she is coming
from. Empathy is cognitive--understanding the
feelings of another person. Respect--Is
showing personal regard and support for another
individual listening reflectively, acting
nonjudgmentally exhibiting confidence in
another persons ability to solve their own
problems. Warmth--Is synonymous with caring is
communicated primarily in nonverbal ways through
gestures, posture, tone, expressions verbal
interactions reflect concern and personal
interest. Genuineness--Is reflected in honesty
taking responsibility for ones own behavior is
reflected when there is congruence between inner
feelings and outward expressions. Genuineness in
interpersonal relationships seems to increase
over time. Self-Disclosure--Is sharing personal
information about out of school activities and
interests, about situations that were
challenging, about mistakes that were made is
revealing feelings. Keeping Commitments,
Behaving Consistently, Maintaining
Confidentiality, Being Visible and Accessible
