Its NOT all fun and games!
  • By. Ricardo Eniso

11
Whats Hazing
  • Hazing is the act of forcing (usually a new
recruit for a college fraternity, athletic team,
etc.) to perform a humiliating, dangerous, and
    even sometimes life threatening task.

12
Why do students haze?
  • College clubs, such as fraternities initiate new
recruits to integrated them to the club, and some
of them make hazing a traditional part of
    initiation.

13
Why is hazing a problem?
  • 55 of college students who join clubs, teams, or
    the Greek system experience hazing
  • Many students dont recognize the dangers of
hazing and even some of them dont know that they
    experienced hazing
  • Nine out of ten students who experienced hazing
do not consider themselves to have been hazed

14
Risks
  • Hazing can include tasks that are life
threatening, such as binge drinking and consuming
illegal drugs or can cause permanent emotional
    scars
  • One in four hazing scenarios involved an
    overdose of alcohol consumption

15
DEATH by Hazing!
  • Although many students dont think about the
consequences, hazing CAN and HAS caused deaths
  • According to educationnews.org Since 1970, there
has been at least one hazing-related college
    death each year.

16
Not Convinced Yet!
  • Just watch this short edited YouTube video of the
death of a college freshmen by hazing

17
Lets put a stop to Hazing!
  • We can prevent future hazing if we can get school
boards and the government to pitch in!
  • We can educate students about the dangers of
    hazing and the consequences!
  • Create stricter anti-hazing laws and policies!

18
Educate!
  • If students are educated about hazing it would
    create awareness
  • They would learn that it can put their lives in
    danger
  • That if they get caught they would suffer severe
consequences, which ultimately would scare them
    away from hazing

19
Educate!
  • If we can get the government and school boards on
    our side they can
  • Creating mandatory seminars during orientation
and set up even more anti-hazing websites which
would help pass the information along the student
    body

20
Laws and Rules
  • If we can get the government to pass new laws
    with stronger consequences against hazing
  • Fraternities would be afraid of following the
    tradition of hazing in initiations
  • It would force students away from hazing
