  various rehabilitation centers wherein counseling
  is provided to addicts for alcohol abuse. Some
  time addicts open up with counselors rather than
  their friends and family. A couple of counseling
  sessions at these centers can help you understand
  the core reason for the addiction and can help
  you work on it too.

• Keeping him occupied
• You can involve him in various other activities
  especially during the hours wherein he craves for
  sipping a drink. A long walk or a hobby class can
  help you achieve this. You can also set targets
  for keeping him sober. It can start from one
  single day and extend it as the days go by. This
  might sound extremely easy but things might not
  go as planned as you are dealing with an adult
  who is an addict too. You need to be mentally
  strong to not be affected by the rejection and
  abuses from the addicted person as they can get
  out of control in the due process.
• There are other methods also to get of rid
  alcohol addiction, like getting admitted at the
  rehabilitation center for a long duration. The
  duration however would be decided by the medical
  officer or doctor who would be monitoring the
  progress of the person. This is the most
  promising method and has proved very useful for
  hard core addicts
