HFRP Our History
Our history is full of change, innovation and
growth. While our name has changed from Morning
Pride to Total Fire Group to Honeywell First
Responder Products, our commitment to excellence
has stayed the same.
Morning Prides first sewing room on Home Avenue
in Dayton, Ohio
Dayton, Ohio, 1921, Morning Pride Manufacturing
was born in the basement of a dry goods store
owned by Lawrence and Estelle Grilliot. Mrs.
Grilliot took over the space to sew morning
dresses, garments women wore over their regular
dresses when they cleaned the house. In 1924, at
the request of a local fire equipment
distributor, the company expanded its clothing
line to include canvas duck coats for
firefighters.

In 1929, the company built its first stitching
facility, a state-of-the-art manufacturing center
in South Dayton. Unfortunately, the Great
Depression set in, threatening the Grilliots new
venture. They survived, however, by adapting to
the times and accepting any stitching work they
could find. From tarps to aprons to hospital
gowns, the Grilliots kept the plant running as
they built their fire gear business.
