What is Biostatistics?
Biostatistics is the application of statistics to
biology (human health biomedical research). The
core is statistical concepts, tools and
inferences. The application is biomedical data.

What is Bioinformatics? What is Computational
Biology?
These two terms are often used interchangably. --
But bioinformatics is usually more focused on
statistical and informatics methods applied in
biological content. -- Computational biology
concerned more on biological problems. The
statistical and computational methods are just
tools.

Bioinformatics Research, development, or
application of computational tools and approaches
for expanding the use of biological, medical,
behavioral or health data, including those to
acquire, store, organize, archive, analyze, or
visualize such data. Computational Biology The
development and application of data-analytical
and theoretical methods, mathematical modeling
and computational simulation techniques to the
study of biological, behavioral, and social
systems.

before doing bioinformatics research?
The more the better!!
(Is it true?)
But each of us have limited energy and cannot
know everything!!
You need to know some basic biology language to
talk to biologists (same as biologists) and learn
from working.

    Crick deduced the double helical structure of DNA
  • 1956 George Emil Palade showed the site of
    enzymes manufacturing in the cytoplasm is made on

  • 1977 Phillip Sharp and Richard Roberts
    demonstrated that pre-mRNA is processed by the
    excision of introns and exons are spliced
    together.
