crucifixion. What do they mean?
- Chastise to purify by beating or whipping.
(Chastise and Chaste are similar, arent they?) - Scourged a punishment where a person is
whipped. Under the Roman method of "scourging,"
the person was stripped and tied in a bending
posture to a pillar, or stretched on a frame. The
"scourge" was made of leather thongs, weighted
with sharp pieces of bone or lead. - Pilate - This man was probably connected with the
Roman family of the Pontii, and called Pilate
from the Latin pileatus. - Sepulchre - burying place, grave.
- Golgotha The site where Jesus was crucified.
